September 22-25, 2014

'One Sunday morning the warm sun came up and-pop!-out of the egg came a tiny and very hungry caterpillar.'
-The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle

That was how we began this week. We were so excited to start our World of Eric Carle unit this week and we will keep exploring it for the other two weeks. The tiny and very hungry caterpillar accompanied us doing most of our class activities this week. We recycled egg cartons to make cute caterpillars; we counted how many fruits the caterpillar ate from Monday to Friday; we sequenced the food that the caterpillar ate on Saturday; we made fresh fruit salad; we punched holes on the leaves using hole punches; and we colored the caterpillar body to complete the pattern. Voila! By the end of this week, the kids are able to 'read' The Very Hungry Caterpillar book by themselves.

The caterpillar has a red head.

Six very hungry caterpillars.

On Thursday, he ate through four strawberries,
but he was still hungry.

On Saturday, he ate through one piece of
chocolate cake, one ice cream cone, one ...

The caterpillar ate through so much food.

We have apples, pears, plums, strawberries,
and oranges.

First, we need to wash the fruits.

Then, we need to cut the fruits into small pieces.

The freshest fruit salad in town.

It was not so easy to use hole punches.

Yellow - Purple - Yellow - ...
Hmm... What comes next?

We introduced iPad using in our class starting from this week. The kids learned some iPad rules in our school like washing hands before using iPad, how we need to hold iPad, etc. They also learned where to find the power and home buttons to be able to turn on and off the iPad independently. The main purpose of introducing the iPad to the kids this week was to start doing our 'Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?' project. In order to do that, the kids learned how to take pictures using the iPad. We started by taking pictures of objects and people in our classroom. The next day, we walked around the ridge to take pictures and objects we saw along the road.

Baby Anna was the model of the day.

Say cheese...

Joining our student council's event - Pajama Day, this morning these three boys came to our classroom together with their moms. We had milk and cookies then read some of our favorite Eric Carle books. I wish we could have Pajama Day at least once a week!

PRIS Family Carnival 2014

Woot! Woot!

It was great seeing all of Pre-K 3 families had fun at PRIS Family Carnival 2014. It was also wonderful that we were able to reach the ultimate donation which can support Plus One program for the whole year. From the other side, PRIS students will celebrate this bucket filling event by having Pizza Party on Friday, October 3 and Ice Cream Party on Friday, October 10. Pre-K students are so lucky to have each of those parties one day earlier. Indeed, giving feels so good. Thank you all for your participation.

September 15-18, 2014

This is a super busy week, yet the kids were so on fire to finish one, two and even three projects in a day. On Monday, they did an awesome job singing two Indonesian songs together with the students in Pre-K4 at the assembly. Bagus sekali! On Wednesday, we had special guests visiting our class. Early in the morning, we had Ms. Natasha coming to show  us how to bath a baby. Then, right after recess, Ms. Amberley and Tia came to our class so we can know more about their family. Tonight, I am looking forward to see all of you at PRIS Carnival. In between those days, the kids had fun finishing some projects in our last week of family unit.

Selamat pagi, selamat pagi...

Daddy should have a pair of shorts.
Mommy would love to have these red high heels.

We love rolling balls and snakes out of clay.

Here is my clay man.

I am really good at cutting.
Let's help this family find their way home.

We are tracing their way home.

I am ready to help you setting up the table, Mom.

Baby loves bubble bath.

Baby Anna is ready to go to school.

I have four people in my family.

September 8-11, 2014

Hi, everyone! We've just finished another great week in our class. Mr. Potato Head from TOY STORY has decided to join our class to help us remember what our classroom rules are. Now we know that we need to put on our looking eyes, listening ears, quite voice, helping hands, and walking feet on when school starts everyday.

Happy helpers were finally on duty this week. Junghoon was chosen as our class first line leader. The other jobs are attendance monitor, weather reporter, plant caretaker, trash collector, and end of school announcer. All of the kids were so responsible to do their jobs and the most important thing was they did them happily. Every week, each kid will have a different job.

Potato family printing was our most favorite activity this week. It was fun! We used potatoes to print our family members body on a piece of paper, then when it was dry, we used black markers to draw the other body parts. We also painted houses for our family using eye droppers. We love the rainbow colors effect they made. The other activity was counting how many brothers and sisters we have in our class and there are 10 brothers and 4 sisters. We know that we have more brothers and less sisters in our class.

September 1-4, 2014

We have just finished another busy week in our class with the two main highlights which were the first day of swimming unit in P.E. class and the fire drill. The kids enjoyed most of the activities we did in the class, although some of them decided just to observe at the beginning of the activities. We are also proud of how we can hear more 'please' and 'thank you' words have been used in our class.

Making friendship bracelets.

Safety talk in swimming class.

Splash!

Whose shadows?

This is how I make my fruit kebabs.

Do you want to see mine?

The Fire Drill.

I know the letters in my friends' names.
