October 6-9, 2014

It looked like an ice cream, but it wasn't.
It wasn't an ice cream.

Yup! We have just finished our last week before Fall break. It was also our last week of Eric Carle unit. Reading and looking closely at Eric Carle's book really helped us to be more creative and artistic. We also know more about animals, colors, being good friends, etc. Inspired by Eric Carle's various techniques in painting, we re-created his colorful alphabets painting. These past three weeks we were busy doing colorful painting using different tools such as paintbrush, toothbrush, sponge, paint scrapper, pompom, etc. It was really fun. Now we have our alphabet canvas to decorate our classroom.

We spent some time to plant our tiny sunflower seed after reading Eric Carle's The Tiny Seed book. Hopefully, after Fall break, we can see the sunflower seeds grow bigger and taller.

We discussed different feelings that we can have and practiced the correct facial expressions to match the feelings. After reading Eric Carle's The Grouchy Ladybug, we discussed about things that can make us grouchy. To go with that discussion we painted, cut and added dots to our ladybugs. We also learned math by matching numbers and dots on the ladybugs wings.

At the beginning, he played at the block center by himself. After a while, creatively he stacked some house-shaped blocks to create a tower. All of his friends enjoyed his creation and asked him if they can play with him at the block center. What a nice creative and sharing moment.

Inspired by two cool books, Little Cloud by Eric Carle and It Looked Like Spilt Milk by Charles G. Shaw, we went to the soccer field to observe the clouds. Indeed, there were so many kinds of clouds in the sky. Some are big, some are small. One cloud can look like a butterfly, the other one can look like a swimming pool. When we came back to our classroom we talked a little bit about symmetry then created our own version of little cloud books.

We were also busy helping The Very Busy Spider from Eric Carle's book to spin her silky web. Ooops! Some of our webs got tangled.

Following the pizza party last Thursday, yesterday we had a yummy ice cream party to close this week. Which ice cream flavor do you like better, chocolate-vanilla or strawberry-vanilla? We like them both. Have a great Fall break, everyone!
